Quick-cooking rolled oats (quick oats) are cut into small pieces before being steamed and rolled. Instant oatmeal is pre-cooked and dried, usually with sweetener and flavoring added. Oatmeal is used to make porridge, as an ingredient in oatmeal cookies and oat cakes.
Bring 2 cups of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 cup oatmeal and salt to taste, then let simmer for 5 minutes.
